Missing Cue on PBP Cue Sheet

Dear Friends,

If you downloaded the cue sheet for "PBP," please note that there was a missing cue.  The corrected cues have been posted on the DCCenturyRides blog, http://dccenturyrides.blogspot.com/.

Here's hoping our friends at the real PBP don't encounter any missing arrows!

Sunday Ride, August 21, 2011

Dear Friends,

We are scheduling a ride for Sunday after all.  Please download and print out your own cue sheet and GPS file for the ride directly from the DCCenturyRides blog, http://dccenturyrides.blogspot.com/

Just click on "Cue Sheets" (on the left side of the page), and you'll find them there!  When you open a pdf file, just click on "Print" to print the cue sheet.  If you're unable to print the cue sheet yourself, let me know and I'll bring a hard copy to the ride start for you.  I won't be bringing extra copies of cue sheets to the ride start unless you email me directly and advise me that you're unable to print out your own.

"GET TO THE POINT," starting from T.C. Martin Elementary School, Bryantown, Maryland.  **MEETING TIME 8:00 a.m.**  A pretty ride through Charles and St. Mary's Counties to Colton's Point and the Potomac River Museum at St. Clement's Island.  We'll have lunch at the quaint but charming, off-the-beaten-path Morris Point Restaurant (see http://www.morris-point.com/), where once upon a time the owner served us lunch in her pajamas and mink coat!  We'll pass several picturesque Amish farms in the afternoon.  Terrain is flat to gently rolling.  Well, OK, there are a few of hills; but total elevation gain is less than 3,000 feet.  101 miles, with several short options.  Here's a link to an interactive Ridewithgps map of the ride:

Directions to the ride start:

Change in meeting location for Saturday's ride

Dear Friends,

Rather than meeting at McDonald's, we'll meet in the little parking lot across the street from McD's, JUST west of the BB&T Bank.  There may be a sign for Milford Mill Rd (or maybe not), but just turn right as soon as you pass the BB&T.  There's a small building with restrooms in the park there, but they may be locked.  Restrooms available at McDonald's, of course.

Saturday Ride (& maybe Sunday)

Dear Friends,

We're really excited for all our randonneur friends who are over in France now, and in solidarity with them we're going to ride PBP, too!  For those of you who for whatever reason weren't able to swing the epic voyage this year, I hope you can join us on our own adventure.

Please download and print out your own cue sheet and GPS file for the Saturday's ride directly from the DCCenturyRides blog, http://dccenturyrides.blogspot.com/

SATURDAY, AUGUST 20, 2011

PBP (Poolesville – Boonsboro – Poolesville), starting from McDonald's in Poolesville, Maryland.  **MEETING TIME 7:30 a.m.**  A new ride designed just for this special occasion, albeit mostly on familiar Frederick and Washington County roads.  It's kind of a drunken sailor route, so there are plenty of places where you can shortcut, but I haven't had time to cue any of them.  Here'a s link to an interactive Ridewithgps map:  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/644527

On the way to Boonsboro, we'll be on two of our favorite roads that include short stretches of unpaved surface, but don't let that discourage you because they're nice hardpack and really beautiful.  Also, in keeping with the PBP theme, if you're an old-timer you'll recognize parts of the route from Dave Berning's original 200K brevet route from 1991!  Lunch at the Icing Bakery & CafĂ© in Boonsboro.  100 miles, estimated elevation gain 6600 feet.

****************************************************************************

Sunday is still up in the air, depending on the weather.  If we do decide to ride on Sunday, I'll send out an additional notice, I hope by Friday night.  If we schedule ride it will be something easy and slow-paced,

Saturday ride - "North by Northwest" 203K Permanent

Dear Friends,

We can only ride one day this weekend, and we've decided on Saturday.  We'll be doing the "North by Northwest" 203K RUSA Permanent, starting from the Roy Rogers on Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, Maryland.  A ride as intriguing and thrilling as the movie, it starts out on a tame note, heading north to Gettysburg.  Suspense builds as it continues north into the Michaux State Forest.  Riders will relax some during the following mellow interlude through the Cumberland Valley only to find themselves again on the edge of their seats as they approach with some trepidation the likes of South Mountain on the return route.  That's all I'm telling.

RUSA rules require that all Permanent riders be RUSA members and officially registered for the permanent. If you'd like to join us you'll need to contact me as soon as possible, preferably by 8:00 p.m. tonight, to request registration and release forms.  I'll then email those forms to you and you'll need to print them out, complete them, and email the registration form and SIGNED release form back to me by Friday morning.  Then I'll email the control card and cue sheet to you and you'll need to print those out for yourselves.  Please be sure that you've read and understand all the information regarding riding a RUSA permanent, available on the Permanents page of the RUSA website, www.rusa.org, before registering for the permanent.  Note:  If you haven't registered for the permanent, please do not show up at the ride start to "come along for the ride," as it's against RUSA rules for anyone who is not officially registered to ride with those riding the permanent.

Sorry for the very short notice, but we were waiting to see what the weather was going to do.  We'd love for you to join us!
