We've got a route for tomorrow, designed to get in some good hill work (which we need if we're going to be ready for next weekend's Dart) and to avoid low-lying areas and creek crossings as much as possible. It's a 60-mille out-and-back ride to the outskirts of Smithsburg for lunch at Rocky's Pizza on Rt. 64. The majority of the climbing (and descending) will be on US40, which has a good shoulder, low traffic, and moderate grades (so as to avoid losing traction on the climbs if it's really wet). Even though it's only 60 miles, we should get close to 5,000 feet of climbing in, so it's actually a decent workout. I'm typing up the cue sheet now, so shoot me an email if you want me to send you an electronic copy.
MEETING TIME 10:00 a.m., DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!!!!. Here are the directions to the ride start:
WEIS MARKET, THOMAS JOHNSON DRIVE & OPOSSUMTOWN PIKE, FREDERICK, MD
From D.C. Beltway (I-495), take I-270 north 31 miles to Frederick. Continue north on US15 3.7 miles. Take Exit 16, Motter Ave exit (sign for Frederick Community College). Turn RIGHT at the traffic light onto Opossumtown Pike. In a quarter mile turn right onto Thomas Johnson Drive, then left into the shopping center. Park at the very back of the lot behind Weis Market.
