Tomorrow may be the last decent riding day for a while, and I hope you can join us for one of our favorites! Please download and print out your own cue sheet and overview map for Saturday's ride directly from the DC Century Rides blog, http://dccenturyrides.blogspot.com/. Just click on "Cue Sheets" (on the left side of the page), and you'll find them there! If you're unable to print the cue sheet yourself, let me know and I'll bring a hard copy to the ride start for you. I won't be bringing extra copies of cue sheets to the ride start unless you email me directly and advise me that you're unable to print out your own. Please don't try to use the so-called "cue sheet" that appears on the left side of the RWGPS map!
Up, Up and Away
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2012
"UP, UP AND AWAY," starting from Amber Meadows Shopping Center, Frederick, Maryland. **MEETING TIME 8:00 a.m.** This very hilly ride includes a few of our favorite things, including Catoctin Hollow, Friends Creek, and Hornets Nest! It also includes the full length of Garfield Road and some other surprise goodies, with many a climb early in the ride. Once we get over South Mountain and into the Cumberland Valley, we'll head north into Pennsylvania and enjoy lunch at Paul's Market. After lunch we'll climb back over South Mountain on good ol' OLD 16, visit the pretty village of Charmian, and then swoop down to Harbaugh Valley via Old Waynesboro Road. Our final climb on Hornets Nest Road will take us back into the Frederick Valley and to Emmitsburg for our last rest stop. The last 30 miles mellow out a bit, featuring bucolic farm country and every manner of friendly farm animal. 99 miles with a 78-mile short option. Note this is a new and improved route that omits the steel grate bridge and adds a few more hills on the return route. Estimated elevation gain ~ 7000 feet. Here's the link to the detailed RWGPS map:
