SATURDAY RIDE, JANUARY 16, 2010

Dear Friends,

If you've been doing a fair amount of hibernating this winter (like we have) and have forgotten how to climb a hill (like we have), we have the sure cure and will be dispensing it this Saturday.  Sunday's weather looks abominable, so please come out with us on Saturday and make hay while the sun shines.  Here's the scoop:

SATURDAY, JANUARY 16, 2010

"UP, UP AND AWAY," starting from Monocacy Middle School, Frederick, Maryland.  MEETING TIME 7:30 a.m.  This hilly and very scenic ride includes a few of our favorite things, including Catoctin Hollow, Friends Creek, and Hornets Nest!  It also includes the full length of Garfield Road, which is actually delightful heading east to west, and some other surprise goodies .  Many a climb early in the ride.  Once we get over South Mountain and into the Cumberland Valley, we'll head north into Pennsylvania and enjoy lunch at Paul's Country Market.  After lunch we'll climb back over South Mountain on good ol' OLD 16, visit the pretty village of Charmian, and then swoop down to Harbaugh Valley via Old Waynesboro Road.  Our final climb on Hornets Nest Road will take us back into the Frederick Valley and into Emmitsburg for our last rest stop.  The last 30 miles mellow out noticeably, featuring bucolic farm country and two covered bridges.  100 miles with a 79-mile short option.

***NOTE:  IF YOU PLAN TO JOIN US, PLEASE EMAIL ME AND REQUEST AN ELECTRONIC COPY OF THE CUE SHEET.  I'LL ONLY BE BRINGING A HANDFUL TO THE RIDE START.***
