Weekend Rides, December 17 & 18, 2011

Dear Friends,

We have rides scheduled for both days this weekend and hope you can join us for one or both.

Please download and print out your own cue sheets and GPS files for the weekend rides directly from the DCCenturyRides blog, http://dccenturyrides.blogspot.com/

Just click on "Cue Sheets" (on the left side of the page), and you'll find them there!  If you're unable to print the cue sheet yourself, let me know and I'll bring a hard copy to the ride start for you.  I won't be bringing extra copies of cue sheets to the ride start unless you email me directly and advise me that you're unable to print out your own.

Tour de Tiny Town

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2011

"TOUR DE TINY TOWN," starting from Springfield Middle School, Williamsport, Maryland.  **MEETING TIME 7:30 a.m.**  We first discovered Tiny Town (OK, so it's really called "Tiny World") (see http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11165) on a Tom Burns bicycling weekend out of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania several years ago.  It's particularly nice to visit the miniature village during the holidays when it's all decorated for Christmas.  SO, it's time for this pretty little ride that starts in Williamsport and heads up to Shippensburg for lunch, with an obligatory stop at Tiny World.  The terrain is typical Cumberland Valley, gently to moderately rolling with lots of bucolic farm scenery.  Estimated elevation gain only 4100 feet.  99 miles with short options of 43, 64, or 80 miles.  Here's the link to the interactive RWGPS map and elevation profile:

Directions to the ride start:

SPRINGFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL, 334 Sunset Avenue, WILLIAMSPORT, MARYLAND

From DC Beltway, take I-270 north approx. 32 miles to Frederick.  Take I-70 West to 81 south.  Take the Williamsport exit #2 onto US11 South.  Turn left onto S. Clifton Drive at the first traffic light.  In 0.8 mile the road turns right and becomes Sunset Avenue.  Springfield Middle School is 0.1 mile on the right.

Lovely Lovettsville Loop

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2011

"LOVELY LOVETTSVILLE LOOP," starting from the commuter lot in Marshall, Virginia.  **MEETING TIME 7:30 A.M.**  This is a very scenic, fairly hilly tour of most of the classic Fauquier/Loudoun County horse-country towns and villages, including The Plains, Middleburg ("if you're not rich you're not welcome"), Purcellville, Waterford, Taylorstown, Lovettsville, Hillsboro, Round Hill, Airmont, and Rectortown.  All on familiar roads; even the directionally challenged should be able to avoid getting lost on this one!  Lunch in Lovettsville at Andy's Pizza & Subs.  99 miles, with PLENTY of shorter options.  Estimated elevation gain 6,200 feet.  Here's the link to the RWGPS interactive map and elevation profile:
